You are a houseplant. You are green. You respire and you photosynthesize. What you do is so common and trifling that you think you do not matter. I mean, look at those trees outside blossoming with life and grappling with real-world oxygen, whereas you are stuck here in this small confinement, breathing the same air that you have been breathing your entire existence. It is a pity.
But wait. Think about this. You are breathing oxygen, transpiration is acting on your leaves, veins, xylem. It is beautiful — something exhilarating and vibrant with the tint of life and the breadth of survival. There is no better place for growth. I know that being here, in a stuffy room with one single inhabitant (me) is a lonely prospect. But imagine when you can spawn from your stems, the day I will transfer you from this miniature caramel-colored pot to the world. Someday, the universe will see you not through a dense glass panel, but amidst the buzzing of bees and the flurry of frivolous rodents.
Do not let the night deceive you. There is brighter light and cleaner air to breathe. I promise you, that tomorrow the sun will shine. At 10:59 PM, the sun is currently in repose and so is your conscience. But remember, every morning the sun rises. Here, I will check weather.com just to confirm. Tomorrow the sun rises at 6:37 am. Until then, we have a dark and arid night ahead. If you have insomnia as I do, then we can play charades. If not, I hope you can rest.
So for now, go to sleep, but not eternal sleep. And we can wait for the sun together.
